ANDREW CARNEGIE WAS THE OWNER OF THE CARNEGIE STEEL COMPANY, AND A MAJOR PHILANTHROPIST. THROUGH HIS HARD WORK HE ENDED UP BECOMING ONE OF THE WEALTHIEST INDIVIDUALS IN THE HISTORY OF THE WORLD. HE CAME FROM SCOTT LAND WHEN HE WAS 13, AND AFTER THE CIVIL WAR HE INVESTED IN THE STEEL BUSINESS SINCE HE KNEW THAT THE IRON RAILROADS WERE GOING TO BE REPLACED BY STEEL.
GEORGE PULLMAN (1831-1897)
He was an industrialist, he designed Pullmans palace sleeping car and developed the " Industrial Paternalism. " His business did not have much success until after the war. He noticed there was poor quality for the housing for the employees so he decided to built a village for the workers,The village had homes, schools, churches, and parks. He did all of this because he thought that this would motivate the workers into working better and more efficient. He ended up paying the workers less and when the workers suggested to lower the rent and utility bills, the workers then went on strike because he didn't reduce the cost.
THEODORE ROOSEVELT (1858-1919)
He was the 26th president of the U.S and was the leader of the republican party, and later the progressive movement. He was the first president to become really well known by using the media to talk directly to the American people. Roosevelt became a national hero for his leadership of the Rough Riders in the Spanish American War. When McKinley was assassinated Theodore Roosevelt became the president of the U.S. Overall Roosevelt has become one of the most popular presidents in American history.
GEORGE WASHINGTON PLUNKITT (1842-1924)
He was a very influential leader in Tammany Hall and NY's democratic political machine. He was the state senator and representative of the NY Assembly. He got money by trading his political support for information, and he guaranteed that his loyal followers would vote as he told them to do so. He was corrupt because he put himself over everything and took money for votes.
PULLMAN'S STRIKE
In 1893 a depression caused businesses to plum it for making Pullman reduce wages to cut the cost even though he did that he still charged the same for rent which ended up making the employees paychecks smaller.
Industrialization in big businesses
It started to become easier because of the new machinery that were being created. More people were needed to work the machines, so kids started working at low cost.
Haymarket riot
An outbreak of violence in Chicago on May 4. A group of people decided to go to Haymarket square to protest. A bomb went off so the police started shooting at the crowd. Many were wounded and a few were killed.

Mccormicks mechanical harvestor
Cyrus McCormick, an american inventor and founder of the McCormick Harvesting Machine Company , invented the mechanical reaper. The reaper was first brought up by his father, Robert McCormick, and Walnut Grove. Since Robert started to get frustrated on the idea, his son took over and ended up succeeding.
